André Gide -- The way fish fall.

Fish die belly upward, and rise to the surface. It's their way of falling.

Jimi Hendrix, and an authentic piece of Dada music

Since the Dada nights, at Zürich's Cabaret Voltaire, there have been many Dada pieces composed. In my view this piece by Jimmy Hendrix is one of the best.

Communication design and the art of packaging

The art “Packaging” is the most immediate application of communication design. A package must communicate with the client to attract his/her attention and to convey the information about its content. Graphic designers must combine all the visual elements at their command in order to achieve this goal in the split second duration of the attention span of a customer that browses a shelf in search of a product. The visual elements include; the color, the typeface, the trademark, the brand, the material, the shape, the size and in the final analysis the artistic design that forces a customer to stop and to notice the product. Here are some interesting package designs.

Design of Wine Lables

According to the bard All that glitters is not gold; However, when a winemaster chooses a tasteful label for his bottle I think there must be some gold somewhere. Behind the design of each label there nearly always lies a story. Wine bottle labeling constitutes an important division of graphic design, and visual communication. It involves some degree of sophistication in the message it purveys. Here are some of my favorite designs:

Swanson Vineyard in the Napa  a label  with a message.

The wine labels, devised by designer Rob Schellenberg, are based on the longitudes of Italy and it's famous wine regions. Depending on the degrees north, the wine region was associated with a numerical logo and topographic map.

Inspired by the nostalgic surrealism of Magritte, Nomeolvides aims at creating a sense of solitude. The text of the counter says, "Sometimes love is so ephemeral and eternal remembrance we want to retain it, do it for a moment forever .."..
