I have been painting frantically over the past two years, and I have submitted a proposal for an exhibition entitled Blue: an intriguing mystery. Here is the text of my proposal:

Blue; an intriguing mystery.
An Exhibition
Proposal by Guity Novin
October 22, 2012
Why am I so enthralled with the colour Blue? What derives
its intriguing mystery and its overwhelming elegance? According to 16th Century
textual accounts, blue was the color of sacrifice for the ancient Maya. They
painted human beings blue before thrusting them backwards on an altar and
cutting their beating heart from their bodies. But, it is a deeper mystery that
calls me from the core of the this universe,
when I hear Johann Strauss’ “The Blue Danube” , or think about these
lines from Maurice Maeterlinck’s The Blue Bird in Act II,
Listen to me!... All of
us here present, Animals, Things and Elements, possess a soul which man does
not yet know. That is why we retain a remnant of independence; but, if he finds
the Blue Bird, he will know all, he will see all and we shall be completely at
his mercy.... This is what I have just learned from my old friend, Night, who
is also the guardian of the mysteries of Life.... It is to our interest,
therefore, at all costs to prevent the finding of that bird, even if we have to
go so far as to endanger the lives of the children themselves.
This mysterious sensation that cannot be explained, or
conveyed or be captured by the mere words, but is perhaps best revealed in Wallace
Stevens’ Blue Guitar. Stevens, one of the most significant American poets of
the 20th century, contrasts between the reality of “things as they are” and “A
tune upon the blue guitar / Of things exactly as they are.’ “
The man bent
over his guitar,
A shearsman of sorts. The day was green.
They said, ‘You have a blue guitar,
You cannot play things as they are.’
The man replied, ‘Things as they are
Are changed upon the blue guitar.’
And they said then, ‘But play, you must,
A tune beyond us, yet ourselves,
A tune upon the blue guitar
Of things exactly as they are.’

I want to capture that exact reality of things as they are.
I want to swim in that blue-pool, which according to an anonymous poet might be
the secret Entrance to the center of the Earth
A pool in new Jersey known as the
`Blue-pool` is rumoured to be a bottomless crater...
created by a pre-historic fallen meteor...
The water is frigid at all times of the year , even in Summer...
Swimmers who have taken a dip have mysteriously vanished under...
The water is crystal clear and blue-tinged ..
Might it be the secret Entrance to the center of the Earth?!
